The weather says differently, but inside the Rosewood Service Inc. greenhouse, it's still tomato-growing season. In its first full year of operation, the greenhouse is filled to capacity with 265 tomato plants producing two varieties – brand names Celebrity and Truss. Their success is dependent upon a few dozen clients at Rosewood who work to care for and grow the tomatoes and then bring them to market.

Ticket sales start Monday for Habitat for Humanity's "Barton County's Got Talent" dinner theater on Saturday, Jan. 21. The non-profit organization has hopes for selling out the Grace Community Church sanctuary and raising at least $10,000 through a combination of ticket sales, sponsorships from local businesses, and freewill donations at the event.

The veteran's representative from the Kansas Commission on Veteran's Affairs will not be making his normal second Thursday visit in April to the Kansas Works Office. Instead, he will be in Great Bend on the third Thursday, April 17th. He will return to the second Thursday schedule in May and the months following.
Next-generation technology is now providing the power behind SeaPort Airlines, the Portland, Oregon-based regional airline which recently completed its successful migration to the Amadeus Altéa portfolio of airline IT solutions. The company's first flight using the new system was operated between Memphis and Jackson, Tenn., on Sunday, March 23rd.
It's funny how loopholes are always just big enough to accommodate a lobbyist. In Texas, the legislature recently banned lobbyists for testing companies from serving on education accountability advisory boards, but Bill Hammond, a lobbyist representing Pearson's interests, is serving on an accountability panel. It may sadden you to know that Texas is messing with ethics, but fear not: It appears no one is listening to Hammond anyway.
