The 17th Annual Kansas Iwo Jima Reunion and Dinner was founded by the late Walt Vincent in 1996. This is the inaugural year to include other World War II veterans. The event will be on May 5 at the Arden H. McKee American Legion Post #128, 108 East Garfield in Sterling, The door will open at 2:30 p.m. for refreshments and viewing of memorabilia. All veterans are invited and encouraged to bring personal memorabilia.
Thomas Boor is running for City County of the Third Ward in Great Bend. Thomas was born and raised in Great Bend and graduated in 1983 from Great Bend High School. After graduation he served in the United States Navy. Following his service he attended Devry Institute of Technology in Kansas City.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at the Club at Stone Ridge at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 9. President Rose Kelly called the meeting to order and led the flag salute. This mother with twin fawns is knee deep in water at the Cheyenne Bottoms. A lot of people are surprised to discover a thriving deer herd in our marsh. Jim Glynn got beautiful pictures of a doe with triplets. This herd roams the farm land adjacent to the refuge and also feeds on the Nature Conservancy ground that is nearby.
