More than $8,000 in property was stolen from a storage shed at Ninth and Washington in Great Bend, sometime prior to 2 p.m. on May 17. Police Chief Dean Akings said items taken were a white 20-inch freestyle bike, 300 Beanie Babies, 300 Hot Wheels cars, 40 drag cars/funny cars, computer parts, bib snow pants, a ski coat, boots, a snow board, under-armor, a fishing pole and Play Station3/Blue Ray.
Two local businesses recently showed support for Barton Community College's Central Kansas Upward Bound program by donating grants to the cause. Midwest Energy donated $525 and Cox Communications donated $1,000. CKUB Project Director Patrick Busch said he hopes to secure more grants from local businesses soon.
