Great Bend resident on Midwest Cancer Alliance Funding Partners

Community leaders across Kansas have joined in the fight against cancer. They are volunteer members of the newly formed Midwest Cancer Alliance Funding Partners, which will hold its first meeting on Feb. 11 in Hays. The council's goal is to generate awareness of the importance of the Midwest Cancer Alliance and to raise $5 million to further its mission.

Brownies conduct service project

Girl Scout Brownies in Troop 11142 recently conducted a sweet community service project at the Heartland Cancer Center in Great Bend. They made and delivered 50 chemo kits filled with journals of inspirational pictures and quotes, along with pens, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, lotion, candy and mints. They also made special kits with toys for children.

Thunder on the Plains opens NHRA West Central Division

S.R.C.A Dragstrip will host Thunder on the Plains on May 15-17 at 455 W. Barton County Rd.; 2½ miles west of Great Bend on the old Air Force base. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.
