Last week's column discussed temperature and what it means for crop growth. This week will focus on moisture. While temperature determines the area of crop adaption, moisture determines the potential for growth and yield potential. However, it is not as simple as the amount of precipitation an area receives yearly and involves other factors besides rain or snow. And we are discussing the long-term average precipitation, not just one or two years.

Claflin native Brad Herter has been promoted to Senior Vice-President at American State Bank and Trust Company in Great Bend. He will continue in his present role as Chief Financial Officer, managing financial reports and data for the bank and its constituents.
Sunflower Electric Power Corporation is pleased to announce that Donald Ronck has joined the company as a Transmission Engineer I. Donald joined Sunflower on Jan. 21st. He will perform professional engineering work to evaluate the distribution operations as well as maintenance practices and procedures. He will also provide appropriate support to achieve the lowest cost and most reliable and environmentally sound electric transmission and distribution possible.
I'm not a doctor, but I play one at home. I'm a sleep specialist. And for most of the summer I've been conducting a clinical trial of sleep disorders. My patients: two of my teenage sons. The ones not yet old enough for a summer job.
