Great Bend-Brit Spaugh Zoo is still planning an Earth Day celebration on Friday, but it will not be showing a movie as announced earlier, Zoo Director Scott Gregory said. BUSHTON - Joseph W. Porter, 85, died April 18 at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons. He was born Dec. 19, 1925, in Keota Okla., the son of Charles and Olvia Gray Porter. On Sept. 30, 1947, he married Norma Louis on Sept. 30, 1947. A resident of Bushton since 1991, formerly of Tulsa, Okla., he grew up in McCurtain, Okla. He was an oilfield worker and a barber.
STILLWATER, Okla. - Corbin Dean Edmisson, 22, died April 16 in Stillwater, Okla. Born April 23, 1988, in Hutchinson, he was the son of Robert Dean and Gina Jo (Gagnebin) Edmisson.
BUSHTON - Orland Lee Schulz, 84, died April 18 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born July 27, 1926, in rural Bushton, the son of John and Myrtle Beneke Schulz. A lifetime resident of the Bushton area, he graduated from Bushton High School. On May 5, 1949, he married Gloria Chesnut at Wichita Falls, Texas. She died on Feb. 2, 1985. He was employed by NCRA for 22 years, and was a lifetime farmer.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission, both recreation centers, City Auditorium and Cavanaugh Wellness Center will be closed today through Sunday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours will resume on Monday.
The saying, "A picture is worth 1000 words" is so true. In the case of my four month old grandson, we have a book started. Still nothing compares to actually holding, squeezing his chubby legs, or getting Bob to laugh out loud. As we enter the holiday season, families across the country hardly need a reminder that November 24th through the 30th is designated as National Family Week.
