As the monarch butterflies flutter through our area on their great fall migration, four organizations have joined to celebrate the unique beauty and the endangered existence of these remarkable insects. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 24, and continuing through October, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, Shafer Gallery, Barton County Arts Council and the Barton County Historical Society will team to showcase the monarchs' tale.

GREELEY, Colo. - Mary Anne Durler was born in Leavenworth on April 27, 1921, the daughter of John Jacob Durler, Sr. and Marguerite Cecelia Reynolds. She graduated from The Dominican (St. Rose) School of Nursing in Great Bend in 1944 and on May 11, 1944 enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corps, receiving her basic training at Colorado Springs.
