Happy New Year! Now that the holidays are over, and 2016 is here, I thought that I would share some upcoming programs to start off the New Year. Happy New Year to all. Tomorrow life starts to get back to normal for most. It promises to an interesting year here in rural America. Last week wrapped up what some of the major stories were for agriculture in 2015. Now let's take a look at what 2016 may hold.

Innovative Livestock Services, Inc. today announced the promotion of Luke Knight to Manager of Knight Feed Lot, effective Jan. 1, 2016. Luke represents the third generation of the Knight family to operate this feed yard located in Lyons. Luke will be replacing his father, Mark Knight, who will be pursuing other family business interests after 30 years of service to Knight Feed Lot, and his grandfather Kenny Knight, the original founder of Knight Feed Lot in 1972.
The following well-balanced and nutritious Friendship Meals will be served for lunch at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Meals are served with milk; donations for coffee and tea are accepted.
The following meals will be served Jan. 5 through Jan. 8. The secondary schools also have available daily main dish, chef salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and fruit. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk is served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.
Edna (Macek) Klema will celebrate her 90th birthday on Jan. 8, with a card shower. A special dinner is planned with her family. She and her husband John have three children, Judy and husband Frank Ochs, and Carol and husband Kevin Wiesner, of Great Bend and the late Rick Klema and his wife Verna Klema of Hoisington; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
