City Band concerts

The Great Bend City Band will be performing at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday night at the city band shell. A special 16 piece jazz band concert will be presented at 8:15 p.m. Friday, at the band shell. Twelve classic jazz band selections will be presented. In case of inclement weather, these concerts will be moved indoors to the Crest Theatre.

Chamber Coffee

This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Daniel R. Trickey Memorial Life Giving Center, 2100 Broadway, (use west entrance off of Stone Street), at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Ambassador in charge will be Karmi Green with greeters Jan Westfall and Julie Smith. Coffee, refreshments and door prizes will be available.

Fireworks may have caused Tuesday blaze

Evidence points to fireworks as the cause of a fire that damaged property and killed trees Tuesday afternoon in the southeast part of Great Bend.

Man injured after trying to pull deer from roadway

A 23-year-old man from Syracuse, Utah, was injured Monday while trying to pull a deer from K-156, 1.5 miles east of Claflin. The accident occurred at 9:53 p.m. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a Ford F-250 pickup driven by Braiden Samuelson, struck a deer on the road. Meanwhile, another car, driven by 18-year-old Anthony Broeder, Great Bend, tried to avoid Samuelson and ended up hitting his truck.
