Mark Keating named Northern Parole Region director

The Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) has selected a new director to head the Northern Parole Region (NPR), overseeing the 10 regional parole offices and the more than 2,500 offenders paroled in the northern half of the state. This area includes Barton County.

St. Mark Lutheran plans back to school event

In honor of the new school year, St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2101 Jackson St., Great Bend, will be serving hotdogs and all the fixings, as well as sundaes for dessert at a sundae bar, following the service on Sunday, Sept. 22. The community is invited to join this celebration, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the St. Mark Fellowship Hall.

GALATIA - St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia will hold a homemade ice cream social from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29. Ice cream will be served and freewill donations will be accepted for homemade pies, cakes and cookies. Donations will be used for programs such as Christmas charities, Kans for Kids, Military Moms, disaster relief and the Family Crisis Center.
