Alco’s merger fails shareholder’s vote

COPPELL, Texas - Alco Stores, Inc. Blood drives Friday and Nov. 11

Barton County residents will have two opportunities to donate blood to the American Red Cross in November. Donations will be accepted from 1:30-5:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Immaculate Conception Church, 110 E. Williamson in Claflin, and from 11:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at St. Rose Auditorium, 1412 Baker Ave. in Great Bend.

Shafer Art Gallery to close for preparation of Holiday Exhibit

The Shafer Art Gallery will be closed Friday, Nov. 1, until Sunday, Nov. 24 in preparation of its holiday exhibit. The gallery will reopen Nov. 24 from 1-5 p.m. with the Festival of Trees exhibit as well as the Jacob's Ladder exhibit featuring ornate quilts from the National Quilt Museum. The opening reception for the exhibit will be held two weeks later on Dec. 8.
