I wish I could say "fall is in the air" but with temperatures nearing the triple digits, we are definitely still in the summer mode. Garden produce this year has had its ups and downs; first a late spring and dry conditions kept gardens from growing and producing. The late July rains gave gardens the boost they needed. I'm pulling together resources for an educational program titled, "Seasonal and Simple" and I hope you will mark the date on your calendar and plan to join me.
The Great Bend Public Library is holding a Halloween Costume Drive sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. From now until Nov. 9, old costumes may be dropped off at the library during business hours, to help kids get costumes for Halloween.
GARDEN CITY - Robert G. Rowley, 88, died, Aug. 30 at the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. He was born on Jan. 13, 1925, in Barton County, the son of Glen and Roberta "Bird" Murdy Rowley. On May 12, 1946, he married Darlene Phillips at Beaver. She died Sept. 6, 1999, in Wichita. A resident of Garden City since 1969, he worked in the oil field as a pumper and he also farmed.
