On Feb. 9, ten members of the Barton County 4H air rifle program traveled to Offerle for the Edwards County Air Rifle Match. There were a total of 47 competitors representing 12 counties from across Kansas. The Barton County participants brought home nine individual medals and a 2nd place team medal.

On Feb. 4, Sterling College students studying education had an opportunity to hear from the top professionals in the field when the Kansas Teacher of the Year team was hosted on campus. Both prospective and current education majors were given the chance to hear two separate presentations that were focused on strategies for teaching.

Larry Straub, Chairman and CEO of the company announced the expansion as well as an expected completion date of August 2013 earlier this month, Straub noted "Our goal is to be up and operational by Sept. 1st of 2013. The Board of Barton County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Items on the agenda include a resolution transferring and carrying over 2012 unexpended funds to the Capital Improvement and Equipment Replacement funds; Richard Boeckman, County Counselor\Administrator, will provide the informational report of work completed during the last period; Amy Miller, Emergency Risk Manager, will discuss the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan; and Sheriff Brian Bellendir will discuss the need for a water filtration system at the Barton County Detention Facility.
