BCC to close for spring break

Barton Community College will have no classes due to spring break from March 18-22. Barton's offices will remain open through March 20, but will be closed March 21 and 22. The Shafer Gallery will be closed March 21-23 but will be open from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 24.

The state of Kansas has been ranked first in its region for economic development projects in Site Selection magazine's 2012 rankings. Site Selection, which has compiled annual economic development rankings since 1978, listed Kansas 13th among all states for expansions and new facilities opened in 2012.

GBHS forensics places at Hoisington Tournament

The Great Bend High School forensics team traveled to the Hoisington Speech Tournament on March 9. The team of 13 students competed against 15 different schools in 26 events. In Original Oration, Clara Kachanes placed fifth, and Nathaniel Cheney placed third. In Serious Solo Acting, Chase Pumford placed fifth. In Informative, Sarah Keller placed fifth and Kameko Schultz placed third. In Poetry, Jesus Sandoval placed seventh. In Prose, Kachanes also placed second, which qualified her to State Championship. Golden Belt swimmers win Hays meet

HAYS- The Golden Belt swim team recorded a first place finish at last weekend's meet in Hays. Aubrey Snapp placed first in all her events. Cal Dunekack and sister Camryn were standouts as well. Phane Pedigo and Dawson Clark were leaders in the high school boys events. All swimmers improved their times swimming in a 50 meter pool.
