GBHS JV grapplers do well at Larned

The Barton Community College Performing Arts Department will host "Scholarship Day" auditions on Thursday, Feb. 12. Current or prospective students may contact the Music Department to set up a time to audition for music or theatre scholarships or performance awards. Hutchinson man indicted on weapons charges

Justin John Michael Cook, 32, Hutchinson, is charged one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition after a felony conviction, U.S. Attorney Office Wichita spokesman John Cross said.

GBHS Hall of Fame luncheon tickets available

Tickets for the Great Bend High School Hall of Fame luncheon are on sale in the Activities Office at the high school. The luncheon is scheduled for at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at StoneRidge Country Club. The Class of 2014 inductees include Aerospace Engineer and 1963 graduate of GBHS, George Nossaman, and Great Bend's long-time "Voice of the Panthers," Randy Goering. Tickets are $15. To purchase a ticket for the luncheon, sponsor a table at the luncheon, or to make a donation to the Hall of Fame, contact the Activities Office at 620-793-1560.

GBHS Speech Team places 4th

At the Medicine Lodge Speech Tournament on Feb. 12, the Great Bend High School Speech Team qualified three more events to state. Becca Kay qualified to state in Original Oration by placing 2nd in the event. Hadley Murphy qualified in both Original Oration and Serious Solo Acting by placing 1st in both of the events. Sara Allen placed 6th in Original Oration and Becca Kay placed 5th Serious Solo Acting. "The team only brought four students and still placed 4th overall in sweepstakes out of 13 schools which is very impressive." stated GBHS speech coach Barbara Watson.
