​Maryanne Shutler

LIBERTY, Mo. - Maryanne Shutler, 81, passed on in peace on May 26, 2015, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. She was a dedicated mother to her children and a very proud grandmother. Maryanne spent five years as a house mother at the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and two years as a house mother at the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, in Manhattan.

Shutting Down Conservative Discourse

There are a lot of things I don't like. Jello molds with miniature marshmallows trapped inside the viscous goo. The smell of sweat on the subway. Subways. Sequels (except for the Godfather II). Mosquitos, malaria, musk, Massachusetts and pretty much everything else that begins with an "m." We're not talking hatred here, just low grade aversion. Let's call this "Dislike Speech."

Carol S. Warrick 1914 - 2015

HOISINGTON - Carol S. Warrick, 100, died May 30, 2015, at Pawnee County Community Hospital in Larned. Born Dec. 25, 1914, in Blair, Neb., he was the son of Neum and Blanche D. (Peck) Warrick. On April 21, 1946, he married Lois Stoskopf in Hoisington. She died on May 11, 1998. A longtime resident of Hoisington, he was a farmer.

Lavern Eugene Elsasser 1931 - 2015

WICHITA - Lavern Eugene Elsasser, 83, died May 31, 2015, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Oct. 14, 1931, in Milberger, he was the son of Leo and Esther (Ochs) Elsasser. On April 18, 1954, he married Nila Jean Diel in Otis. He was senior application engineer for Diesel Equipment Company in Great Bend beginning in 1955, and transferred with the company in 1966, to Wichita, which later became Central Power Systems. His hobby was clock making. Mr. Elsasser was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the ...

Bandits win back-to-back titles

PRATT- It was a very rewarding Father's Day for the dad's of the Barton Bandits 13U baseball team. Behind exceptional pitching the Bandits successfully defended back-to-back tournament titles at the 2015 Smoky Ford Wood Bat Tournament held this weekend at the Green Sports Complex in Pratt.

Golden Belt swimmers win Hays meet

HAYS- The Golden Belt swim team recorded a first place finish at last weekend's meet in Hays. Aubrey Snapp placed first in all her events. Cal Dunekack and sister Camryn were standouts as well. Phane Pedigo and Dawson Clark were leaders in the high school boys events. All swimmers improved their times swimming in a 50 meter pool.
