Most regional travel expected for Labor Day since 2008

During the Labor Day holiday, which begins today, 35.5 million Americans are planning to travel at least 50 miles from home during the five-day holiday period that runs through Monday. AAA projects more than 2.7 million people from the West North Central Region, of which Kansas is a part, will journey at least 50 miles or more from home for Labor Day Weekend, the highest travel volume for the region since 2008 and the third highest in a decade.

City Council meets Tuesday night

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, due to the Labor Day holiday, at the City Office, 1209 Williams. The agenda includes an update on the old opera house wall at Williams and Forest, the Airfest Veterans Honor Parade, the Renaissance Faire, painting the train in Brit Spaugh Park and public hearings for unsafe structures.

Commission to hold Tuesday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, instead of Monday due to Labor Day, at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend.
