Katherine and Mathew Hicks of Great Bend competed on Oct. 11, at the Kansas State Rabbit Breeders Association annual convention. They participated in the youth individual contests, the royalty contest and youth rabbit shows. Livestock producers attending the Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) Convention in Wichita will hear an investigative journalist present the case that nutritional science has it wrong with respect to the healthfulness of meat and dairy products. CLAFLIN - Joseph "Joe L." Kaiser, 98, died Nov. 12 at the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb. 6, 1916, on the farm in Claflin, the son of Lawrence and Louisa (Fonscher) Kaiser. Joe was a farmer and a stockman.

The Great Bend High School A Cappella Choir will host a garage sale from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Panther Activity Center. Items include appliances, computers, household items, clothing and everything in between.
It's required reading for most high school students. It's regarded by many as the great American novel. There have been numerous film versions of the story but only one musical version. "Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" based on Mark Twain's classic will be presented at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 13, 14 and 15, in the school's theatre. Director Betsy Dutton calls the show a "rewarding challenge."

To call the grotesque drubbing suffered by the Democratic Party in the midterms monumental, is like referring to the surface of the sun as warm. The scene was so grisly, acutely sensitive Democrats (most of them) were forced to avert their eyes or risk anaphylactic shock.
