USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools

The following meals will be served March 11 through March 15. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

McGlynn started her career with CPI in April, 1999 as a Plan Administrator Trainee in the Plan Administrative Services (PAS) Department. In May, 2000, she was promoted to Plan Administrator. In October, 2003, she was promoted to Senior Administrator, and in February, 2006, she was promoted to Consulting Senior. In February, 2013, she was promoted to Manager.

Ellinwood Prom

Ellinwood High School Prom 2015 will be held at Ellinwood High School on April 11th. Prom decorations may be viewed by the public from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Promenade will begin at 6 p.m. on the east side of the high school. The prom theme for this year will be Candy Land. The dance will end at 11 p.m. Transportation to After Prom will be on the north side of the high school.

Great Bend bowlers earn All State honors

Great Bend senior Jeff Mietler was selected to be on the All Kansas State Bowling team. The Panther captain ended the season with an average of 218. At the conclusion of the regular season, Jeff was named the Most Valuable Player in the WAC and was also named to the All WAC First Team. Mietler anchored the Great Bend boys to a regional runner-up finish and a third place finish at the state tournament.

Hilda Chakir 1916 - 2015

Hilda Chakir, 98, died April 7 at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend. Born April 8, 1916, in rural Barton County, she was the daughter of Gustav "Gus" and Matilda (Liese) Kasselman. On Aug. 19, 1939, she married Theodore Richard "Dick" Griffith in Great Bend. He died on April 25, 1977. She then married Norman William Chakir on March 10, 1981, in Miami, Okla. He died on Dec. 30, 2012. A lifetime resident of Barton County she was a homemaker. She was a former 4-H Leader, and enjoyed her family, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and going to dances.
