ALTON, Ill. - Robert W. Bretz, 56, of Alton, Ill., died on Oct. 29 at his home. Born Jan. 18, 1956 in Oakley, he was the son of Samuel L. Bretz and Alice (Brant) Bretz. In 1981, he received a bachelor's degree in Horticulture from Kansas State University. On April 28, 1984, he married Brenda J. Schilling in Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Seward. He worked for the Parkway School District in St. Louis for 18 years in the Facilities Department.
Phillip Glenn Wynn Jr., 85, died Oct. 28 at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born June 22, 1927 in Geneseo, he was the son of Glenn and Irene Campbell Wynn. He graduated from Geneseo High School and attended McPherson College. On May 17, 1947, he married Melva Jeannine Neal in Geneseo. She died on Nov. 4, 1977. On Dec. 18, 1977 he married Ruth Willard Kasselman in Sterling. A resident of Great Bend since 1967, having lived in Hutchinson for the past year, he was employed for 37 years by National Supply Company in oilfield sales.

Barton Community College's Theater Department will hold auditions for its spring 2013 Broadway musical production, "Is There Life After High School?" at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Auditions are open to students and community members. Actors must have a song prepared. An accompanist will be provided.

Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend is seeking anonymous information about damage done to road construction equipment belonging to the Barton County Road and Bridge Department. Sometime between 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 19, equipment located in the 700 block of SE 30 Road was vandalized. Damaged was estimated at $500.

The NJCAA Region VI men's soccer championship trophy returned to Great Bend as the No. 6-ranked Barton Community College defeated Johnson County 2-0 on Sunday at Topeka's Hummer Sports Park.

Helen Marie Steincamp, 84, died Jan. 10, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. Born Oct. 12, 1930, at Redwing, she was the daughter of Joseph R. and Anna Marie (Proksch) Dietz. She was a 1948 graduate of Hoisington High School.
