Employers, career consultants and job seekers mingle at a career and networking job fair, Tuesday at the Best Western Angus Inn courtyard area in Great Bend. This event was hosted by KansasWorks and supported by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Edward Scott, Local Veterans Employment Representative with KansasWorks, said 15 employers were represented at the job fair, which was open to civilians as well as military veterans.
LAS VEGAS, NEV. - Earl Marion Amerine, 95, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away on March 10, 2011. He was born in Great Bend and had been a resident of Las Vegas, Nev. since 1987.
Due to the city's observance of Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, the sanitation routes in Hoisington for Monday will be run on Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Tuesday and Wednesday routes on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The Barton Community College campus and Center for Adult Education will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day. Classes and offices will resume regular schedules on Tuesday.
The Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams St., will once again be offering free computer classes to the public beginning Tuesday, Sept.13. Classes are one-hour long and are available twice on Tuesdays, at 3:30 and 7 p.m.
The magical, mystical art of Lisa Winter Hayes, Great Bend, will be featured at the Barton County Arts Center, 1401 Main, Great Bend, through the month of September. An opening reception will be held Sunday, Sept. 4, from 2:-4 p.m. The public is invited to attend and meet the artist.
DENVER. COLO. - Neil L. Dougherty, 82, resident of Denver, Colo., born Jan. 11, 1929, in Codell, Rooks County, Kan., passed away on Aug. 29.

ELLINWOOD - A benefit fundraiser poker tournament will be held for 11-year-old Kadin White, who is suffering from acute lympoblastic leukemia, beginning at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Ellinwood American Legion, 117 N. Santa Fe. White also has Down Syndrome and has an infection. He is in Wesley Medial Center in Wichita.
The Barton County Fair Association announced Thursday the signing of county group Parmalee to perform at this year's Barton County Fair. Parmalee will perform on Friday, July 11, with special guest the Jared Daniels Band.

HUTCHINSON - Betty L. Nairn, 84, died Feb. 17, 2014 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation is currently seeking applicants for their 2014 healthcare career scholarships. Each year the Foundation desires to present several individuals with scholarships. Scholarship amount varies with the merits of the application and funds available from the endowments. The four scholarships to be awarded are: Jonathan Witt Scholarship, Sadie Stalcup Scholarship, Verda Lane Nursing Scholarship and Dr. Robert Moore Scholarship. Application deadline for all scholarships is April 1, 2014.
