Bette M. Billinger 1916 - 2013

HOISINGTON - Bette M. Billinger, 96, died Feb. 28 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born July 30, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Alice Alt. She married the love of her life, Edmund Raymond Billinger, on April 11, 1942, at Tacoma, Wash. He died Oct. 23, 2011.

William “Bill” Schoenhofer 1927 - 2013

LYONS - Surrounded by the love of his family, Bill Schoenhofer, Lyons, 85, returned to God on Feb. 28, 2013. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons. Parish rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Lyons. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father Thomas Leland officiating. Interment will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery with military honors by Ft. Riley.

Who owns this seed?

First, what a difference a little snow makes. Much of the area received a significant, heavy snowfall. This translated into over two inches of liquid moisture and in some areas about three inches for the month. So if you want to feel better, we are at about 200 percent of normal so far this year. Seriously, this moisture will really help the wheat crop and the way most of it fell and the way it is melting couldn't be better.

Leroy “Lee” Heikkila 1945 - 2013

Leroy "Lee" Heikkila, 67, died Feb. 28 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born May 8, 1945, at Superior, Wis., to Eino and Alice (Humann) Heikkila. He married Cecilia Ross Sept. 1, 1996, at Great Bend. He was a drug and alcohol addictions counselor at Dream Inc. and worked in construction and painting.
