Darlene Mlynar will celebrate her 80th birthday on Wednesday, Feb. 8, with a card shower. A resident of rural Barton County, she is retired from Suburban Cleaners and Essex. She has also done a lot of volunteer work.
Ryan and Megan Hammeke announce the birth of their daughter, Emma Breanne Hammeke, on Dec. 4 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She weighed lbs. 3 oz. and was 19 in. long.
Marion and Juanita Alpers of Hudson will celebrate their 60th anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Hudson Community Hall. Hosts for the event will be their son, Kevin and Barb Alpers, daughter Janell and Reuel Foote, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Irvin and Shirley Burhenn celebrated their 60th anniversary on Jan. 29 with a celebration and dinner at the Olive Garden in Wichita. The couple took their first ride in a limousine to the celebration, traveling from El Dorado with their children and grandchildren. Attending the celebration were their sons Stewart Burhenn of El Dorado and Steve Burhenn and wife Adel of Great Bend; their daughter, Kala Bayes and husband Jerry of Amelia, Ohio; grandson, Jason Burhenn and partner Brandi Cobert of Wichita; granddaughter, Lacey Haughawout and husband John of Wichita; great-grandson, Ian Haughawout of Wichita; a friend Allison Howerton.
Justin and Kristina Tajchman announce the birth of their son, Arlo Jasper Tajchman, on Dec. 14 at Seton Northwest Hospital in Austin, Texas. He weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz. and was 21 in. long. He has a two-year-old brother, Oliver Finn Tajchman.

Members of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi present a gift of $550 to Dr. Kyle Krebaum for the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation established by Krebaum and his wife, Tasha, in memory of their daughter, Makinna, to help families who have special-needs children. This donation will go toward the Foundation's new project to fund playground equipment for a special-needs access park. The Great Bend High School Madrigal Pops Singers will deliver singing Valentines from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 for a $25 donation. The recipient will be serenaded with a love song. The recipient will also receive a decorated cookie.
Gavilon Grain, LLC today announced it has acquired a 981,000-bushel grain facility in Silica. The Silica facility primarily handles wheat, corn, milo and soybeans, with 60-car shipping capabilities on the Kansas-Oklahoma railroad.
