HUNTER - Funeral Services for Dorothy J. "Jeanie" Baird, age 78 of Hunter will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 at Grace Chapel United Methodist Church with burial following in Greenwood Union Cemetery. Jeanie died Friday at the Mitchell County Hospital Resident Care Center in Beloit.
Michael Doherty, 61, died May 14 at Hays Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1950 at Great Bend, the son of John Henry Doherty and Lillian Margueritte Hannegan Doherty.
LARNED - Reva Louise Ross, 94, died May 14 at the Presbyterian Manor in Topeka. Born June 18, 1917, in Pawnee Rock, she was the daughter of Eugene F. and Alice N. French Bloom. On April 21, 1934, she married Gerald Ross in Wakeeney. He died on Feb. 18, 1986. She was a wife, mother and homemaker.
Barton Community College has announced its new Computer Aided Drafting & Design 21-hour certificate program with classes beginning from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 5 through July 26. Students who start coursework this summer can earn their certificate by as early as Spring 2013.

At the Medicine Lodge Speech Tournament on Feb. 12, the Great Bend High School Speech Team qualified three more events to state. Becca Kay qualified to state in Original Oration by placing 2nd in the event. Hadley Murphy qualified in both Original Oration and Serious Solo Acting by placing 1st in both of the events. Sara Allen placed 6th in Original Oration and Becca Kay placed 5th Serious Solo Acting.
