The Smoky Hill Chorale, a community choir under the direction of Dr. Terry Crull, assistant professor of music at Fort Hays State University, begins rehearsals Monday, Feb. 4, in Palmer Recital Hall, in Malloy Hall, room 115, on campus.

Barton Community College Honor Roll

Barton Community College has named 260 students to the Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

Opportunity Quilt awarded

Ronnie Lutz, Central Kansas ThreadBenders Opportunity Quilt Chairman, has announced the recipient of the 2012 Opportunity Quilt as Sandra Vink of Great Bend. Each year, the guild members create an Opportunity Quilt and the money raised funds the group's HC project.

Watkins graduates from US Air Force Officer Training School

Ian J. Watkins has completed his United States Air Force Officer Training School at Maxwell, Air Force Base, Alabama, and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. Ian graduated from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. Stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Fla., he is a Combat Systems Officer and will undergo extensive flight school training, aircraft weapons strategy and other related courses for the next 18 months. After completing his initial training, he will be assigned to one of the Air Force's premier fighter aircraft such as the F-22 or ...

The following meals will be served Feb. 4 through Feb. 8. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Golden Belt Community Foundation accepting grant applications for March

The Golden Belt Community Foundation invites proposals for its upcoming competitive grant cycle. Applications now are being accepted from qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and public institutions, including schools, government entities, and clubs and civic/community organizations in Barton, Pawnee, Rush, and Stafford counties. Funds are available primarily for the health and well being of youth; however, limited funds are available in many other categories.

Barton County producer attends KLA Leadership Conference

Evan Cooper of Great Bend attended the Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) Leadership Conference in Topeka. He was among 15 producers to participate in the event, which is designed to expose attendees to services provided by KLA and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the legislative process, industry advocacy and various aspects of beef marketing.
