School summer menu

USD 428 Great Bend School Food Service will offer the summer lunch program at Eisenhower, Jefferson, Lincoln, Park and Riley Elementary schools. The program will run from June 3 through June 27 (Monday through Thursday). Breakfast is served at Park and Riley only. There is no charge for anyone age 1 through 18. Sites are open to all children regardless of where they attend school. Parents may eat with their children for $3.50 for lunch or $2 for breakfast. All food must be consumed on site.

Golden Belt Community Foundation accepting grant applications for July

The Golden Belt Community Foundation invites proposals for its upcoming competitive grant cycle. Applications now are being accepted from qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and public institutions, including schools, government entities, and clubs and civic/community organizations in Barton, Pawnee, Rush, and Stafford counties. Funds are available primarily for the health and well-being of youth; however, limited funds are available in many other categories.

Everyone is waiting to see what the wheat crop will hold. Summer crops are pretty well planted until double-cropping. The area has been receiving fairly significant rain and overall temperatures, while a little cool for corn and sorghum, are great for wheat grain development. Specifically, let's take a look at the people out in the fields and feedlots performing the day-to-day operations vital in producing food, fiber, and fuel.

P.E.O. Star Scholarship winner

Taylor Fry, daughter of Jeff and Angie Fry was recently awarded the prestigious P.E.O. Star Scholarship. Fry was recommended by Chapter HR of Great Bend. The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is based on excellence in leadership, activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. This year there were 302 STAR Scholarships awarded out of 1,961 applications, eight winners in Kansas. Fry is a recent graduate of GBHS and was accepted into Kansas State University where she plans to major in Business Management and minor in Piano.
