Governor declares September ‘Kansas Preparedness Month’

TOPEKA – To highlight the need for emergency preparedness in the home, workplace, schools and community, Gov. Sam Brownback signed a proclamation Thursday, designating September as "Kansas Preparedness Month." The signing took place in the governor's ceremonial office in the Kansas Capitol.

Melvin and Helen Urban, of Ellinwood, celebrated their 60th anniversary on Aug. 31 with a weekend of fun with their children and grandchildren and concluded the weekend with a celebration of Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellinwood. The couple also took an Alaskan cruise vacation in July with their children to celebrate.
