ILS enters into tentative deal to buy Fuller Brush

GBHS orchestra plans concert

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, the GBHS Orchestra will perform its fall concert in the high school auditorium. Featured selections are themes from the master choral work "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi and the "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1" by Edvard Grieg. The program will also include a lively "Irish Reel," the bombastic "Toccatina" of William Hofeldt, and a spooktacular piece inspired by classic zombie movies that will be frightening as well as entertaining.

Singing legend Frankie Valens and his wife Phyllis will appear at First Southern Baptist Church, 3301 19th St., Great Bend, at 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 4. There will be no charge for the program, but a freewill offering will be taken.

​Students qualify for State Honors Auditions

Five students from District V of the Kansas Music Teachers Association have qualified for the State Honors Auditions, to be held Nov. 10 at Washburn University in Topeka. Rebecca Dudrey, president of KMTA District V, said auditions were held at Barton Community College on Oct. 13. Each student performed either two or three pieces from different periods or different composers.

Jay Louis Kimball 1939 - 2012

Jay Louis Kimball, 73, died Oct. 17 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Born Jan. 20, 1939, in Larned, he was the son of Jay Grant and Sarah Louise (Postlethwaite) Kimball. In 1957 he graduated from Great Bend High School. On Aug. 20, 1959, he married Linda Laffer in Winfield. A resident of Great Bend since 2005, coming from Carson City, Nev., he worked for Lockheed Martin and Hytek Microsystems as a Microelectronics Engineer.

Alice "Pauline" Myers 1921 - 2012

ROZEL - Alice "Pauline" Myers, 91, left this world on Oct. 18 at her home in Rozel. Born Jan. 16, 1921, at Bristow, Okla., she was the daughter of Samuel Alexander and Maude Gertrude Reinhart Warren; she was one of 13 children. On May 7, 1944, she married Cletice N. Myers at Vinita, Okla. He died on Jan. 27, 1979. She was a resident of Rozel since 1973, moving from Great Bend, where they raised their family. Pauline worked as a cook at the Larned State Hospital from 1970 to 1978. Her hobbies include quilting and gardening. She loved to give ...

Claflin council holds meeting

The governing body of the City of Claflin met in regular session, Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in the city building. Present were: Mayor Michael Urban, Councilpersons Kirk Schneweis, Kelly Nixon, Casey Hubbard, Dan Michaelis and Leon Oberle.
