HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Labor Day Committee is bringing back the Labor Day Princess Contest in conjunction with the annual Labor Day activities.
HOISINGTON -Once again there will be a Labor Day Baby Contest in conjunction with the annual Labor Day activities in Hoisington. A Labor Day Baby will be named during the Labor Day weekend, and the winner will receive a cash award of $100, a $100 savings bond and a memento.

CLAFLIN - The city officials say 4-4,500 people were in town maybe even close to 5,000. So many back yard barbecues were held. Plans are already being made to do another event in five years.
LARNED - The Santa Fe Trail Center will offer a special presentation on Caring for Your Keepsakes at the Trail Center's auditorium at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19.
The Pawnee County Humane Society will sponsor an Adoption Fair from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Great Bend Orscheln Farm and Home Supply and during Orscheln's Moonlight Madness event at 5320 11th Streer.

Jehovah's Witnesses are inviting all in the area to attend a program focusing on a government that millions, perhaps billions, pray for God's Kingdom government, which is requested in the world-famous model prayer taught by Jesus Christ, will be the focus of the 2011 "Let God's Kingdom Come!" District Convention to be held at Century II Convention Hall, 225 West Douglas Avenue in Wichita.

The Young Swedish Singers, a 34-member gospel singing group from Hässleholm, Skåne, Sweden, will appear in concert at Trinity Lutheran Church, 24th and Adams, in Great Bend, at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19. The group's tour includes stops in Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Iowa, June 14-July 5.

United Methodists in Nebraska and Kansas launched its public school partnership with an education caravan in July at three Kansas locations designed to bring attention to the importance of public schools. Three more are scheduled in Nebraska on Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 2. United Methodists in the new Great Plains Conference (Nebraska and Kansas) intend to increase collaborative efforts between United Methodist congregations, schools and community partners to support local schools.
CLAFLIN - The Immaculate Conception Altar Society of Claflin is having a Roast Beef Dinner and Fun Night on Sunday, Sept. 21. Roast Beef and all the trimmings will be served from 5-7 p.m. at the Parish Center in Claflin.

During his Town Hall at Ellinwood Thursday, Secretary of Revenue Nick Jordan said he believes it's time to look at a new school funding formula. "Free lunch isn't the only indicator of at-risk," he said, noting poor students may excel and more affluent students may face other issues.

The Barton County Road and Bridge Department will be doing asphalt work at the intersection of Washington Ave. and 30 Road on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22-23. The intersection will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, or until the project is completed.
