Shellylen Farmer, 56, of Great Bend, died Jan. 29 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
ELLINWOOD - DeLoise Batchman Elliot, 83, died Jan. 30 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Jan. 10, 1930, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Fred Batchman and Katie Irene Herter. On Sept. 3, 1950, she married Claude William Elliot in Ellinwood. He died on March 13, 2012. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, she was a farm wife and provided nursery care.

MANHATTAN - Kansas State coach Bill Snyder signed a new five-year contract Thursday that includes an increase in base compensation to $14.75 million over the life of the contract.
There are still a few openings for the Kansas Wetland Education Center's Feb. 2 winter kid's program, "Wild About Wetlands". Designed for children ages 6 through 12, the program runs from 10-11 a.m. at no charge.

President Obama's choice of Nevada to announce his all encompassing amnesty program is curious. Nevada's 10.2 unemployment rate is the nation's highest. Las Vegas, where Obama spoke, has a 10.4 percent unemployment rate. Nevada unemployment is so acute that more than four and a half years have passed since a single construction worker showed up at the unfinished $4.75 billion Echelon mega resort.

Helen Marie Steincamp, 84, died Jan. 10, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. Born Oct. 12, 1930, at Redwing, she was the daughter of Joseph R. and Anna Marie (Proksch) Dietz. She was a 1948 graduate of Hoisington High School.
