Those looking for a change from the run of the mill Friday night can enjoy an evening out at the Shafer Art Gallery's opening reception for its "Pedagogy" exhibit from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 10. The reception will feature catered food, music and gallery talks. Admission is free.
There are a couple of outdoor writers that I think set the watermark for newspapers in Kansas. Brent Frazee who writes for the Kansas City Star, and Michael Pearce, who is with the Wichita Eagle, walk the walk and provide the public with all the news, events, and the current situation in their wonderful reporting on the great outdoors in our state. Their last productions for the 2013 year were spectacular, and I will try to share some of their information with a couple of my own thoughts.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the City Office, 1209 Williams. The agenda includes a Great Bend High School Student Council service project, a resolution supporting housing tax credits, an amendment to the Blizzard Energy lease and an essential air service recommendation.
The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes a new printer for the Register of Deeds Office, official depositories for county funds and renewal of memberships in statewide organizations.
