The Rice County Commission on Aging, working in partnership with the Rice County Historical society, is offering a half day workshop on the basics of being on a nonprofit governing board. This course will be led by Sue Elliot, Executive Director of the Rice County Council on Aging and Maggie Carlson, Director/Curator of collections at the Coronado Quivira Museum.

Great Bend Middle School announces students who received the Above and Beyond Award for the second nine weeks. The students are nominated by their teachers for going above and beyond the call of duty in becoming a good citizen of GBMS. The student receives a certificate, and a pizza and pop luncheon with the administrators.
The following well-balanced and nutritious Friendship Meals will be served for lunch at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Meals are served with milk; donations for coffee and tea are accepted.
John Lowe has been named Pathways December Employee of the Month. John has been caring for Pathways clients since 2009. John is a true team player. He will help will all parts of the agency; from maintenance to helping with direct care. He frequently gets call at all hours of the night and on weekends to fix maintenance issues, or help with client behaviors. John always puts the clients first and goes the extra mile to ensure they live in a safe environment.
Tickets will go on sale Wednesday for the 2011 Great Bend High School Hall of Fame luncheon honoring Don Halbower, former GBHS principal, and Dan McGovern, a 1960 GBHS graduate who held a variety of high level positions in the administrations of President Reagan and the first President Bush, as well as the California state government.
Theresa Peters has been named ResCare HomeCare December Employee of the Month. Theresa has been caring for the clients of ResCare HomeCare for just a short time, however she came to us with a long history of caring for the elderly. She has proven herself to be a caring, dependable, hard worker. Theresa's clients love having her around because they can count on her to do whatever is needed.
