Is it just me or is life "bumpy" in Kansas right now? The government healthcare website is a mess. Pat Roberts recommends removing Sec. Sebelius -- and he worked for her father. Jerry Moran is voting with Mr. Obama on the healthcare issue. Governor Brownback has ratings lower than the President, and horribly, across our nation, school kids are killing teachers. It seems like a lot of things are to messy and complicated to correct.

Sherri G. Brantley, Great Bend, was recognized recently during the Middle States Teachers of English Speakers of Other Languages (MidTESOL) conference in Lawrence. Her doctoral research was awarded the "Best Student Proposal" for the Nebraska/Kansas/Missouri/Arkansas/Iowa conference.

Farmers Bank and Trust in Great Bend and the Great Bend Kiwanis Club have something in common. The Bank and the service organization have both supported Barton Community College's Jack Kilby Science Day for eight years. Both came through again this year with $1,000 donations.

Rodeo provides memorable performances

The 9th Annual Rosewood Rodeo is now in the books, but the Oct. 12 event will long be remembered by participants and spectators alike. That's because many of the more than 30 participants turned in stellar therapeutic rides and the new Rosewood Drill Team wowed the crowd, which was on hand to witness the team's debut performance at the Great Bend Expo III Arena.

Eric Bortz

WILLOW SPRING, N.C. -Eric Bortz, devoted family man of Willow Spring, passed away Oct. 24, 2013. Eric was born and raised in Great Bend and moved to North Carolina in 1997. While his life would seem too short to many, those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who he had touched in some small way.

Lois A. (Wheeler) Eudaley 1929 - 2013

MEADE - Lois A. (Wheeler) Eudaley, 84, died Oct. 25, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center in Meade. Born Feb. 27, 1929, in rural Gridley, she was the daughter of Chester Arthur and Audrey Aileen (Wilson) Wheeler. As a young girl, she attended the Emporia school system, graduating from Emporia High School. On June 4, 1950, she married John "Bill" Eudaley in Emporia. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Manhattan for 53 years. Over the years she was a homemaker and later in life she worked as a cook for USD 38. Brooklyn Lee Debenham

ABILENE - Brooklyn Lee Debenham, 5, of Abilene, passed away on Oct. 23, after a fatal farm accident. Brooklyn always had a smile on her face and brought laughter and happiness to everyone she was around. She had her dads smile, her moms toes and the prettiest blue eyes. Brooklyn loved singing, dancing, playing dress-up, and playing with her sisters.
