Man injured in oilfield

Aaron Owen, 27, was flown to a Wichita hospital via air ambulance after an oilfield accident Monday morning. Owen was working at an oilwell pulling unit two miles west of Susank and 1.25 miles north (at NW 200 Road and NW 20 Ave.) when a pipe fell out of an elevator and landed on top of his head. He was conscious and suffering from a laceration on the side of his head when the accident was reported at 10 a.m.

Unemployment rate declines in August

TOPEKA – The August Labor Report shows a decline in the unemployment rate, improvements in unemployment insurance claims and continued increases in jobs numbers since 2011.

​BCC trustees to act on hardware licenses

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will approve new licenses for the hardware that runs the college Student Information System when it meets at 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30, the Seminar Room of the Fine Arts Building. Other items on the agenda are a monitoring report on "Essential Skills" and approval of new personnel.
