St. Rose to offer 'Reversing Diabetes' class for first time

If anyone had told Gloria Siefkes, R.N., a few years ago that she would be leading a presentation called "Reversing Diabetes," she wouldn't have believed it. But now, because of new information, the St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center diabetes educator has scheduled an event to share what she has learned.

American Double Standards on Display in Ukraine

Last week two prominent Ukrainian opposition figures were gunned down in broad daylight. They join as many as ten others who have been killed or committed suicide under suspicious circumstances just this year. These individuals have one important thing in common: they were either part of or friendly with the Yanukovych government, which a US-backed coup overthrew last year. They include members of the Ukrainian parliament and former chief editors of major opposition newspapers.

Ellinwood’s McKenna Rugan signs with Emporia State track

ELLINWOOD- Ellinwood track standout McKenna Rugan will be taking her talents to Emporia State next season. Rugan has won seven state track medals her first three years with the Eagles. She has been a part of three school records in the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800 meter relays. McKenna was also on three state runner up teams: two in cross country, one in track. Rugan is the fifth Ellinwood track athlete to sign in the last two years. She is the seventh to be offered a scholarship.

Paul George Dietz 1918-2015

RUSSELL - Paul George Dietz, 96, passed away April 21, 2015 at the Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 3, 1918, on the family farm in Russell County just north of Bender Hill, he was the son of Ferdinand and Pauline (Karst) Dietz. He grew up in the Bender Hill area and graduated in the Class of 1938 from Russell High School. On June 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Hilda Bender at the Trinity Bender Hill Lutheran Church.
