One Heart in the Heartland, a cultural festival of Midwestern music and dance, will precede the dedication of the new Kansas City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) this weekend. The festival will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium, and the actual dedication of the temple will follow on Sunday.

This past Sunday, Aug. 24, the Kansas Highway Patrol investigated a collision outside of Overbrook on US-56 Highway, milepost 409, between Croco Road and Paulen Road, in Osage County. It is believed that a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian who was walking on US-56 Highway. The collision occurred at approximately 5:05 a.m. on Sunday.

KAKE's "Good Morning Kansas" program was honored with the award for Best Morning Newscast – Medium Market. "Good Morning Kansas" is anchored by Jemelle Holopirek and meteorologist Frank Waugh, produced by Melisha Regier and directed by Russ Sturm. KAKE was the only Wichita television station to receive an Emmy award in this year's competition.
