FHSU students compete in NATS student audition

Nineteen Fort Hays State University students competed recently against approximately 450 student singers from Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado in the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) West Central Region Conference and Student Audition competition in Lincoln, Neb.

Dr. Nicole Boxberger accepts position in New Orleans

Dr. Nicole Boxberger, raised in McPherson, accepted a position at Bippo's Place for Smiles and Kids Dental Zone, in New Orleans, La. She attended The University of Missouri- Kansas City where she received her D.D.S. After graduation, she pursued her pediatric dental residency at LSU. She is currently a member of the ABPD, ADA, NODA, AAPD, ABPD, and LAPD. She was co-chairs with Dr. Kellie Axelrad for Children's Dental Health month in February 2012.

The Wetland Explorer: Eagle Days

One of the more asked about species of birds at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center is the Bald Eagle. Especially this time of year, Bald Eagles can be a regular sight at Cheyenne Bottoms. During the recent Cheyenne Bottoms Christmas Bird Count, participants recorded 57 Bald Eagles, which was an all-time high count for Bald Eagles for the count.

Merle J. Collins Jr. and Carrie Lynn Hogg, of Russell, announce the birth of their daughter, Peyton Marie Collins, on Jan. 16, in Hays. She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and was 19 in. long. HOISINGTON - Gloria K Zamarripa, 66, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born July 14, 1948, the daughter of Fred Ray and Alice (Rohr) Kincaid. Gloria married Frank Zamarripa April 4, 1964 at Great Bend. He died May 6, 1989.

Charley Hoffsmith, 67, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born July 4, 1947, at Dighton, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Marie (Orten) Hoffsmith. A long-time resident of Great Bend, he was the owner and operator of Charley's Tree Service.

ELLINWOOD - Sue Elizabeth Ballantine, 67, died Jan. 22, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. She was born on Feb. 28, 1947, to Donald H. and Violet Ann (Schartz) Ballantine. Sue was a resident of Wichita for 35 years and formerly of Ellinwood, KS. She retired from Boeing in 1998 where she worked for 20 years.
