Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice will sponsor a Monday evening grief support group in Great Bend from May 14 through July 16. It will meet each Monday (except Memorial Day) from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Medical Building at 3520 Lakin Ave. This building is just south of St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center and the entrance is on Lincoln Street.
Barton Community College's 42nd commencement is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the Barton Gymnasium. College President Dr. Carl Heilman will present a welcome to the graduates, their families and friends to the ceremony.

HUTCHINSON - Aubrey Linus Schartz, 82, died Sept. 14, at his home in Hutchinson. Born Aug. 20, 1932, in rural Ellinwood, he was the son of Edward and Frances Schartz. On Oct. 16, 1951, he married Bonnie Lou Harbaugh in Ellinwood. He retired from Marmie's Motors in Great Bend and moved to Hutchinson.

The Great Bend Police Department continues to receive reports of counterfeit money circulating at local businesses.
An officer from the Great Bend Police Department arrested Bryce Anderson, 20, for flee and elude and other traffic infractions, at 1:16 a.m. Sunday at Burger King, 3929 10th St. He was booked for fleeing and eluding law enforcement, obstruction, driving while revoked, no insurance, reckless driving, speeding, obstructed windshield, failure to yield at stop sign and failure to use turn signal. He posted a $5,000 surety bond through Ace Bail Bonding and was released.

ELLSWORTH - A man and woman from Russell died Sunday in a two-vehicle collision at the K-14/K-156 junction, 1.5 miles south of Ellsworth.
The Great Bend Madrigal Pops Singers are now selling tickets for their fall chili supper fundraiser. The event is set for 5-7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the high school's Jack Kilby Commons area, prior to the football homecoming game against Wichita North.
St. Mark Lutheran Church, 21st & Jackson, Great Bend, will host a Walking Taco Supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, in the church fellowship hall. The menu includes build-your-own tacos, dessert and drink. Admission is by freewill offering and all proceeds will go to the Education Assistance Fund to assist children of the church who are attending Christian-based schools.
The Great Bend Public Library will host an extra movie night this month for adults 18 and older. "Moms' Night Out" will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. The movie and the popcorn are free.
