​No jam session at Russell this month

RUSSELL - The regularly scheduled "Pickin' at the Deines" will not be held this Sunday, due to the large number of participants who will be at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield. Pickin' at the Deines is a jam session and pot-luck dinner that is usually held on the third Sunday of each month. The next one will be on Oct. 21. The jam session will start at 3 p.m. and the supper at 5 p.m.

​Pink pig yard ornament missing

The theft of a pink pig yard ornament from outside a Great Bend apartment is the subject of this week's Crime Stoppers report. Police Chief Dean Akings said that sometime between 5 p.m. on Aug. 31 and noon on Sept. 1, a concrete pig was stolen from 3900 Forest Ave., Apartment 8. "This yard ornament was 3 feet long and 2 feet wide and weighed 400 pounds. The base was green and the value of this ornament was $300.
