Members of Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi present a gift of $550 to Dr. Kyle Krebaum for the Makinna Ann Hope Foundation established by Krebaum and his wife, Tasha, in memory of their daughter, Makinna, to help families who have special-needs children. This donation will go toward the Foundation's new project to fund playground equipment for a special-needs access park. The Great Bend High School Madrigal Pops Singers will deliver singing Valentines from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 for a $25 donation. The recipient will be serenaded with a love song. The recipient will also receive a decorated cookie.

On Jan. 27 the Great Bend Middle School Jazz Ensemble participated in the annual Hutchinson Community College 2012 Winter Jazz Clinic. Guest artists from Denver, Colo. and Louisville, Kent. were in attendance as jazz clinicians for the high school and middle school jazz ensembles. HUTCHINSON - Mark A. Bomgardner, 51, of Hutchinson, went home to be with his Savior, July 27 at Reno County Hospice House. He may have lost his battle with cancer, but he conquered the grave when he accepted Christ as his savior. He was born May 31, 1963 in Joplin, MO, the son of Bob and Judy Allen Bomgardner. He was a 1981 graduate of Dodge City High School, and received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Fort Hays State University. He was a Hutchinson resident for the past 15 years moving from Great Bend.

SPEARVILLE - Susie Ackerman, 95, died July 26, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. Born March 7, 1919, in Pratt, she was the daughter of Michael and Alice Duncan Shanley. On Oct. 2, 1951, she married John F. Ackerman in Pratt. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2003. An area resident since 1951, she was a homemaker.
