DEERFIELD, Mo. - Alva Otis Hite Jr., 88, of Deerfield, Mo., died Sept. 17 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. He was born May 22, 1924, at Fort Scott, the son of Alva Otis Sr. and Gladys Mae (Cox) Hite. He married Joyce Marie Larcom on May 3, 1952, in Fayetteville, Ark., and she preceded him in death Aug. 1, 1985. On Dec. 11, 1992, he married Neva Bunn, and she survives of the home.

ELLINWOOD - Maggie Ann (Diebert) Brown, 82, died March 1, at her home in Ellinwood of pancreatic cancer. Born April 7, 1932, near Hoxie, she was the daughter of Julius Edwin and Fairy Fay (Barr) Deibert. On June 5, 1949, she married Earl Robert Brown. He died in 1997. She was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper and as a cook at the Alcove Club.
Wanda Jo Simmons, 62, died March 1 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 10, 1952 in Casper, Wyo., she was the daughter of Daisy P. Fortna. Wanda graduated high school in Lenwood, Wash., and then later joined the Army where she served six years followed by six more years in the Army Reserve. An Ellinwood resident since 1982, Wanda married husband Francis Simmons on June 21, 1983 in Ellinwood. Wanda worked at Sterling House in Hutchinson as a CMA and was an avid reader who enjoyed nature and being outdoors.
