Rabbi to give talks on climate change

"Caring for Creation: Faith-Based Environmental Activism and the Challenges We Face," will be the subject of a program offered at 7 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Dominican Sisters Auditorium at 3600 Broadway Ave., Great Bend, and at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Glory Be, located at 7th and Broadway in Larned.

Lenten Luncheon at Parish Center

The next Lenten Luncheon will be Wednesday, March 20, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church Parish Center, 4100 Broadway Ave. Host pastor is Father Reggie Urban, and the guest speaker will be the Rev. Sandy Kennedy from Faith Community Church. The weekly luncheons begin serving at noon – not earlier – and end at 1 p.m. Freewill offerings will be taken to defray the expenses of the host congregation. The public is invited to attend all of the luncheons, which will continue through March 27.

'Journey of the Universe' to be shown at motherhouse

Dominican Sisters of Peace will show the motion picture "Journey of the Universe" at 6:15 p.m. Friday, March 22, in the auditorium of the Motherhouse, 3600 Broadway Ave. A freewill donation is requested. Refreshments and discussion will follow the movie, which has a run time of 56 minutes.

PAWNEE ROCK - A sunrise pageant is planned for Easter morning at the Pawnee Rock State Historic Site. The pageant starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, Elaine Mull reports.

What if the Resurrection actually never happened?

CLAY CENTER – "A historical fact which involves a resurrection from the dead is utterly inconceivable," wrote the late Dr. Rudolph Bultmann, an influential New Testament German Theologian. Presenting an opposing view is Dr. N.T. Wright. Presently, he is a world's leading Bible scholar having done extensive research on Jesus' resurrection. He says, "Because he is raised from the dead, he is Lord of the world, sovereign over the whole cosmos, the one before whom we bow the knee, believing that in the end every creature will come to do so as well."

​KBI attempts to locate Robert Helms

TOPEKA - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation received information late Wednesday afternoon that Robert Helms targeted a grocery store in Walsh, Colo., 18 miles from the Kansas border in southeast Colorado. Helms portrayed himself as a deputy from a fictitious Adams County, Kan., Sheriff's Office. He produced a fake law enforcement officer badge which said "Adams County/Deputy Sheriff" on it.

​Cora Louisa Pennington 1914 - 2013

ELLINWOOD - Cora Louisa Pennington, 98, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27th. Born May 24, 1914 in Bunker Hill, she was the daughter of Arthur Sellens and Mary (Chenoweth) Sellens, one of five children. In 1932 she graduated from Haviland Friends Academy. She was honored as one of three remaining graduates surviving from her class at the 2011 reunion. A resident of Ellinwood for over 50 years, she was a self-employed beautician.

Preliminary damage assessments under way in storm-striken counties

Preliminary Damage Assessments began March 11 in a number of Kansas counties affected by the severe winter storms that struck the state in February. The assessments will gather data to determine if any of the counties will be eligible to apply for federal Public Assistance money to recoup disaster-related expenses.
