A burn ban in effect for Pawnee County has been extended for another week. During Monday's Pawnee County Commission meeting, commissioners extended the burn ban for seven days.
A Hoisington man was injured in a one-vehicle accident in the 10 block of NW 100 Road. The Barton County Sheriff's Office reports James Lyons, 25, was taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital by Hoisington ambulance with undetermined injuries.
WICHITA - Herbert Marlin Wong, 87, retired restaurant owner, passed away July 21, 2011.
Bennie Mooer, 86, died July 25, 2011, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 25, 1925, at Otis, the son of Harvey and Hermina (Gleissner) Mooer. He married Bonnie Peoples on Sept. 8, 1946, at St. John. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he owned and operated the Bennie Mooer Construction Co.
Lawrence Hiss, 81, of Ellinwood, died July 25, 2011, at Rice County District Hospital in Lyons. Services are pending with Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood.

Raised in Claflin, he was a graduate of Claflin High School. He graduated from Fort Hays State College with a degree in math and science, and continued his studies to receive his Master's degree in 1956 with a major in Secondary Eduction.
