A hit-and-run injury accident occurred at 12th and Williams St. at 9:20 a.m. Saturday. The man allegedly driving the vehicle that left the scene was southbound on Williams St. and ran a stop sign, striking a vehicle driven by Loretta K. Miller. He then left the area and parked at 1105 Morton St., then left on foot. The car was located at 9:26 a.m. Brass knuckles were found in the car and booked as evidence.
Crime Stoppers is seeking information about a burglary that occurred sometime between 8 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 10 a.m. on Dec. 3 at a used car lot located at 205 10th St. in Great Bend. Police Chief Dean Akings said four Duru brand tires, size 235/35/20, and four Vizzo 20-inch wheels were stolen from a vehicle parked in the lot. Loss was $1,520.
Barton Community College Phi Theta Kappa members Michelle Klepper of Ellinwood and Jeff Pike of Great Bend helped load and deliver more than 1,000 items collected for the Family Crisis Center of Great Bend last Tuesday, Dec. 11, as part of the Family Crisis Christmas Drive. Phi Theta Kappa is an academic honor society that places on an emphasis on community service and involvement.

HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Knights of Columbus, 114 N. Main, will host a steak and shrimp dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5. The cost is $9 for shrimp, $13 for steak and $16 for steak and shrimp combo dinner with all of the trimmings. All proceeds fund the council's charitable activities.
Sinh Thi Nguyen, 93, died Dec. 17 at home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 2, 1919 at Hanoi, Vietnam, she was a daughter to mother Chuc Nguyen. In 1937, she married Lam V. Tran in Hanoi, where she was a homemaker. He died in 1962. She came to the United States after the fall of Saigon, Vietnam in 1975, and she became a resident of Great Bend. She was of the Buddhist Faith.
SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Ruth W. Wynn, 87, died Dec. 15 at Mennonite Friendship Manor in South Hutchison. Born May 31, 1925 in Chase, she was the daughter of Fred Leslie and Sara Maude Elliot Willard. In 1943, she graduated from Labette county Community High School in Altamont. On Dec. 18, 1977, she married Phillip G. Wynn Jr., in Sterling. He died on Oct. 28, 2012. Formerly of Great Bend and Ellinwood, with winters spent in McAllen, Texas, she was a receptionist at Sterling Drilling Company for 14 years.
STAFFORD - Virginia Hope Sell, 78, died Dec. 17, 2012 in Pratt County. Born Sept. 1, 1934 at Richfield, she was the daughter of Arcy and Myrtle Heggy Krey. She was the owner of Ginny's Beauty Shop and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Stafford. She volunteered for several organizations in Stafford. On May 23, 1956 she married Darwin Sell at Stafford County. He died June 30, 2005.
Willis and Theresa Bieberle will celebrate their 60th anniversary from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 2 at St. Patrick's Parish Center, 4100 Broadway in Great Bend. The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will vote on publishing next year's budget when it meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, in room F-30, on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building. The recommended budget would require an estimated property tax rate of 33.124 mills this year; that is exactly the same as the actual tax rate in 2014.
Steven J. Thomas, 58, passed away at his home in Great Bend on July 24, 2015. Steve was born on July 1, 1957, at Hutchinson, to Glen L. and Patty L. (Herndon) Thomas. He grew up in Lebanon, Kansas, and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1975. In 1976 he moved to Great Bend and attended Barton County Community College, where he obtained an Associate of Science degree.
LARNED – Linda O. Zielke, 66, passed away July 23, 2015, at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned. She was born Nov. 4, 1948, in Greene, New York, the daughter of Leonard and Thelma Pierce Oles. A longtime area resident, she was a homemaker.

WICHITA - Larned High junior Colton Massey shot a 156 total over 36 holes while competing in stroke play qualifying in the 2015 Kansas Amateur Golf Championship at Wichita County Club. Massey missed qualifying for the 64-player match play bracket.
