A Barton County Sheriff's Office jailer was fired earlier this week after authorities were called to his residence Saturday night, Barton County Sheriff Greg Armstrong said. However, no charges have been filed.

He worked for the United Sates Postal Service in Gothenburg, Neb. and was promoted to postmaster in Polk, Neb. and Belgrade, Neb.
OXBORO, MASS. - Mary Constance (Moses) Stone, 90, died on Feb. 19 peacefully at the Doolittle Home in Foxboro, Mass. She was the beloved mother of her two children, Greta Stone of Wayland, Mass. and Gregory Stone of Hawaii, and loving grandmother of Jonathan, Madelaine, and Juan, her son-in-law Andy Myers and daughter-in-law Austen Stone, and her many friends. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Helene Gay (Connet) Moses.
Elmer C. Dupree, 90, died Feb. 23 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 10, 1921 in Knowles, Okla. he was the son of John L. and Clara Mae (Taylor) Dupree. On Dec. 21, 1941 he married Rhea M. Brown in Chester Okla. She died on Oct. 16, 2009. A resident of Great Bend since 1951, coming from Kinsley, he owned and operated the Dupree Locker Service for 28 years and later worked for Dillons for 17 years.
Vernon McCord, 79, died Feb. 25 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 4, 1932, he was the son of J.R. and Martha (Day) McCord. He married Imogene Reeves in Arkansas. They later divorced. On Dec. 20, 1979 he married Betty Wilson in Larned. She survives. A Great Bend resident since 1969, coming from Winfield, he owned and operated McCord's Service, Inc. He previously taught diesel mechanics in Wichita and worked for C.V. Cale in Great Bend, Federated Flour Mills and G.E. in Winfield. He loved to work, travel and spend time with his ...
HOISINGTON - Shirley L. Jones, 60, died Feb. 25 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Feb. 12, 1952 in Topeka, she was the daughter of Alois and Pauline (Waldschmidt) Kisner. On May 17, 1969 she married William Clayton Jones in Hoisington. A long time resident of Hoisington, coming from Ellis, she was a homemaker.
LARNED - Violet "Vi" Smith-Snyder, 88, died Feb. 26 at her home in Larned. Born Dec. 17, 1923 in Larned, the daughter of James W. and Ketha Blanche Hanon Kitterman. A lifetime Larned resident she was a beautician for 25 years, a nurses aide for 10 years and a receptionist for 10 years. On Sept. 22, 1940 she married Bernard D. Smith at Larned. He died on Aug. 24, 1968. On June 4, 1973 she married Guy Snyder at Larned. He died on August 31, 2005.

Merle J. Collins Jr. and Carrie Lynn Hogg, of Russell, announce the birth of their daughter, Peyton Marie Collins, on Jan. 16, in Hays. She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and was 19 in. long. She has a big sister, Lana Collins, 11 years old; and two big brothers, Joe Collins, 10 years old and Jacob Collins, 8 years old.

HOISINGTON - Gloria K Zamarripa, 66, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born July 14, 1948, the daughter of Fred Ray and Alice (Rohr) Kincaid. Gloria married Frank Zamarripa April 4, 1964 at Great Bend. He died May 6, 1989.
Charley Hoffsmith, 67, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born July 4, 1947, at Dighton, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Marie (Orten) Hoffsmith. A long-time resident of Great Bend, he was the owner and operator of Charley's Tree Service.
PAWNEE ROCK - Hazel Crone, 89, died Jan. 24, 2015 at home in Pawnee Rock, Kansas. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend.
ELLINWOOD - Sue Elizabeth Ballantine, 67, died Jan. 22, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. She was born on Feb. 28, 1947, to Donald H. and Violet Ann (Schartz) Ballantine. Sue was a resident of Wichita for 35 years and formerly of Ellinwood, KS. She retired from Boeing in 1998 where she worked for 20 years.
