She was raised on the family farm northwest of Pawnee Rock, and attended Pawnee Rock Schools, graduating in 1970. RUSH CENTER - The women of the Hope Lutheran Church in Rush Center, also known as WELCA (Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) have set the date of their annual bazaar for Friday, Nov. 7, in the church basement. A meal will be served from 5-7 p.m., with selections such as sloppy joes, sandwiches, pie and sweet rolls. An auction at 7 p.m. will feature handcrafted items including hand-quilted quilts of all sizes, plants and baked goods.

David Michael "Mike" Johnson, 72, died Oct. 30 at Almost Home Inc., Great Bend. He was born Nov. 25, 1941, at Denison, Texas, the son of Doug and Woodie (Pritchard) Johnson. He married Peggy Temple April 28, 1962, at Borger, Texas. He founded M and M Equipment in 1975, retiring in December 2012.
PAWNEE ROCK - Ladine Peterson, 95, passed away Oct. 29 at the Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born April 2, 1919, in Bison, she was the daughter of Everett and Frances Bitter Edwards. On April 3, 1941, she married Loraine Edwin Peterson in Bison. He passed away Jan. 20, 1995. A lifetime area resident of Rush and Pawnee County, she began her career as a teacher and retired from the ASCS office in Larned. She raised Persian cats and took them to many shows, and she also loved flowers.
Tena Westenhaver of Great Bend is kicking off her Soles4Souls Shoe Drive from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at her home, 1801 VanBuren. This is just the first effort in her year-long campaign to collect 25,000 pairs of shoes the Soles for Souls organization can distribute to the needy and victims of disasters.

SeaPort Airlines today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has approved an alternate service pattern for air service from Great Bend Municipal Airport. The new service will replace current scheduled service to Wichita Mid-Continent Airport with nonstop service to Kansas City International Airport.
Coaching basketball at a community college means a lot of new faces nearly every year. Barton Community College men's coach Craig Fletchall knows this. He had been at it for 13 years – eight at Barton where he is the all-time leader in coaching wins.
