Library system executive committee meets Monday

The Central Kansas Library System Executive Committee will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, at CKLS Headquarters, located in the basement of the Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams St. An executive session for a personnel item, followed by possible action, is on the agenda.

Venders wanted for craft fair

The American Legion Auxiliary will hold a craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the American Legion, 1011 Kansas Ave., in Great Bend. A $25 donation is suggested for having a booth. Proceeds will go toward helping veterans at the Fort Dodge Soldiers Home. For more information call Brenda at 620-793-2796 or the post, 793-5912. This event will be open to the public.

Stolen pickup found burning

At 4 a.m. Thursday, a passerby saw a newer-looking pickup on fire in a field north of Broadway Ave. The pickup was blazing and its horn was sounding as the person called 911. No one else was around. Firefighters responded to 6000 block of 16th St., and found the truck in flames. Damage was estimated at $20,000 and the cause was undetermined.

Reiter wins Sunflower poker tourney

Linh Reiter of Great Bend won the first-place jackpot of $750 at the recent Sunflower Diversified Services poker tournament. Robert Unger of Hudson won $300 for second place and Bill Sutton of Dodge City $150 for third.

Darlene Weatherman 1950 - 2011

CHASE - Darlene Weatherman, 60, died Sept. 21 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. Born Dec. 9, 1950, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Ira P. and Margaret Heinz McKay. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School. On May 25, 1968, she married Larry Weatherman Sr. in Great Bend. A resident of Chase since 1992, formerly of Hoisington, she was a former office manager for Karlin Communications and Cablevision and a pastor.

Cuma M. Zeltner 1942 - 2015

PRATT - Cuma M. Zeltner, 72, died Jan. 27, 2015 at South Wind Hospice in Pratt. Born on April 16, 1942, in Princeton, Ind., she was the daughter of Charles Max and Gypsy Genelle (White) Vinson. On March 18, 1962, she married James 'Jim' W. Zeltner in Great Bend. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2012. She worked as office manager at Adams Electric in Pratt for 24 years and most recently worked as bookkeeper for Westhoff Plumbing. The avid reader enjoyed making her world famous chocolate chip cookies.

​Offerle man injured after texting while driving

GARDEN CITY - An Offerle man who was texting while driving went off U.S. 50 Tuesday evening in Finney County. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 8:50 p.m. Jeffrey Humiston, was driving a 2013 Chrysler 200 that went in the ditch and traveled for 900 feet and struck an obstruction. The car went airborne, coming to rest in the westbound lane facing northwest.

​Tickets on sale for pancake and sausage supper

HOISINGTON - The Hoisington Lodge No. 331, A.F.&A.M., will hold a pancake and sausage supper from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the lodge, located at Second and Vine St. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Three inducted into Barton Sports Hall of Fame

Athletes from two eras and the first ever student trainer were inducted in the Barton Community College Sports Hall of Fame over the weekend. Basketball legend Gene Butler, baseball great Jeff Christy and Ryan 'Pete' Manely were inducted during a ceremony Saturday afternoon at the Kirkman Activities Center on the Barton campus.
