Tyler and Ashley Klein announce the birth of their son Colton Todd Klein on Aug. 12, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and was 19 in. long. He has a 2 year old big brother, Gannon.

The Ellinwood Heritage Club will hose a Christmas Dinner at noon on Monday, at 103 N. Main. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes and rolls will be provided. Salads, vegetables and desserts can be brought by guests. Entertainment will be provided by the high school music department.

The Busy Buzzers 4-H club decided November would be a great time to give back to the community with a service project. At their monthly November meeting, they decided to sew shirt protectors for the local care facility Almost Home. Several of club members arrived an hour early to the meeting to begin sewing. There were experienced sewers and kids who had never sewn before helping with the project. By the end of the night, around 12-14 shirt protectors had been sewn. The following meals will be served Dec. 8 through Dec. 12. The secondary schools also have available daily: second choices, chef salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.
Twenty-nine senior centers from across southwest have been recognized and designated a 2014 Focal Point by the SouthWest Kansas Area Agency On Aging (SWKAAA) according to Dave Geist Executive Director. These centers were recognized for the programs and services that were provided Oct. 1, 2013 thru Sept. 30, 2014.

Berlin is a terrific city out of which now comes an important trend: wiser use of food. For example, through a network of food-sharing centers, Berliners can now give leftover food to others who can use it as well as receive food that others donate. It's all free. Thousands of people in Berlin and other German cities are becoming volunteer "food savers" who regularly go to stores, restaurants and other locations to collect and help put to good use tons of food that otherwise would be thrown away.
