LIBERAL - Liberal scored five goals in 15 minutes to roll past Great Bend's soccer team 6-2 in Tuesday's Class 5A soccer regional. Brian Galindo and Carlo Daniel Franco scored Great Bend's goals. Galindo beat goalie Ramon Hernandez on a penalty kick. The Panthers finish with a 6-11 record.
PONCA CITY, Okla. - Floyd Douglas Griggs, 80, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Oct. 27, 2015, at his home. Born on Sept. 2, 1935, in Guymon, Okla., he was the son of Beaulah May (Thrall) and Earl Edward Griggs. He was raised in northwest Oklahoma and southwest Kansas, graduating from Deerfield High School in Deerfield in 1953. After high school he attended Kansas State University and in 1957, completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting as an Honors graduate and with Phi Kappa Phi honors. Mary Rose Craddock, 68, died Oct. 27, 2015, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. She was born May 9, 1947, at Great Bend, to Jober and Zelma Carson. She married Dale Craddock in March of 1995. A Great Bend resident, she was a homemaker.
Safety officials are urging motorists and community members to be careful as Halloween approaches. Caution can be the key to safety as an increasing number of people will be out this weekend with Halloween, including pedestrians walking, parents driving their children, and people attending Halloween parties, said Lieutenant Adam Winters, Kansas Highway Patrol spokesman. It is imperative that safety play a role in the fun during the day and evening's celebrations.
Fort Hays State University Athletics will enshrine several new members into the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 31. The inductees include Jeff Bieker (baseball), Jayme Eichner (volleyball), Daryl Henning (wrestling), Jim Montgomery (track & field), Vicki Thom Smith (gymnastics), and Ed and Donna Stehno (contributors). The induction ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 31, at the Memorial Union Ballroom on the campus of Fort Hays State University. Last week the U.S. House of Representatives called former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to appear before a select committee looking into the attack on a US facility in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012. The attack left four Americans dead, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens.
