In May 1944, she married Leonard F. Homolka in Reno, Nev. He died on April 11, 2003. A resident of Great Bend most of her life, she was a homemaker.
Robert E. Yetschke, 85, died May 3, 2010 at his home in Great Bend. Born May 27, 1924 in Great Bend, he was the son of Clarence and Chole (Piper) Yetschke. Betty Ann Yetschke, 84, died May 5, 2010 at her home in Great Bend. Born May 17, 1925 in Tulsa, Okla., she was the daughter of Donald Sr. and Frances (Corbeille) Bowsher.
Caroline "Carrie" Stecklein, 87, died April 3 in Alva, Okla. She was born on July 31, 1924 in Kansas.
HUTCHINSON - Francis E. "Gene" Stambaugh died April 3 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are pending with Elliott Mortuary & Crematory, Hutchinson.
PAWNEE ROCK - C. Walter McCowan, 71, died April 3 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Morell Funeral Home, Larned.
LYONS - Jeffery Adam Thurman, 26, died April 1 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born March 20, 1986 in Lyons, he was the son of Leonard A. Thurman and Anita A. Williams. He attended Lyon's schools. A longtime resident of Lyons, he was an oilfield worker.
CLAFLIN -The Central Plains Oiler music department had 24 students performing in Larned on Saturday, March 31 at the Regional Music Festival. It was a successful day with nine of 14 entries advancing to the State Music Festival. The State Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday April 28 at Kansas Wesleyan University.

I was surprised and saddened when I read of the passing of Tribune City Editor Chuck Smith. I will miss his editorials, especially his straightforward, tell-it-like-it-is style of writing. HUTCHINSON - Susan Marie Harms, 56, died Dec. 18 at her home in Hutchinson. Born Feb. 14, 1958, in McPherson, she was the daughter of Gustaf and Naomi Scheikofsky Nelson. She was a graduate of McPherson High School. On July 8, 1988, she married Robert Harms. He survives. She was a resident of Hutchinson the last 23 years.

Mabel E. Hiss, 91, died Dec. 18 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born April 9, 1923, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of August H. and Anna (Gagelman) Werhahn. On Oct. 29, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, John R. Hiss. He died on Aug. 4, 2005. A lifetime Great Bend resident, she was a homemaker and also worked at the Great Bend Tribune during World War II. She attended Washburn University.
