Chhitubhai K. Patel, 73, passed away on March 31, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 29, 1940, in India, he was the son of Karshanbhai R. and Deviben K. Patel. In 1964, he was united in marriage to Bhagvatiben C. Patel. Mr. Patel farmed in India prior to coming to the United States and Jackson, Miss. in 1989, moving to Great Bend in 2011.

WICHITA – A registered sex offender residing at Larned State Hospital pleaded guilty Monday to sending obscene material to a minor while he was a patient at Larned State Hospital, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.
The Barton Community College theater department will hold its last performance of the school year at the Thespian Showcase at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 1 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
Easter Egg Hunt to be held

Marcella Maneth of Olmitz will celebrate her 85th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 19 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Olmitz. Hosts for the event will be her children. No gifts are requested.
Kevin and Harue Naylor announce the birth of their daughter, Claire Sophia Naylor, on Dec. 17, in Tokyo, Japan. She weighed 7 lbs. 7 oz. and was 20 in. long.
Emma Jeanne Bradley celebrated her 85th birthday on April 12, at the Larned VFW with her children, grandchildren, extended family and members of Escue Chapel CME Church. Emma Jeanne and guests played games, sang songs and reminisced about living 85 years and the events she has witnessed in her life. Tributes were read and given to Emma Jeanne by her family.
Months of hard work will culminate Monday night at 7 p.m. as all of the Great Bend Sixth Grade Band members join forces for their annual concert at GBHS gym. Schools represented include Eisenhower, Jefferson, Lincoln, Park, Riley, Holy Family and Central Kansas Christian Academy.
As the lights dimmed and the images flickered on the screen, the movie audience stepped into the lives of young farmers and ranchers as they took on the tasks of running their families' operations. No wannabe Bogarts or Bacalls, just honest-to-goodness people who work the land.
