(AP) - Alex Gordon had two hits and stretched his hitting streak to 13 games and left-hander Bruce Chen went seven strong innings, leading the Kansas City Royals past the Cleveland Indians 5-4 on a cold and blustery Tuesday night.Chen (3-0) beat the Indians for the fourth straight time. He stretched his personal winning streak, dating to last season, to seven games over 11 starts.

BUSHTON - Joseph W. Porter, 85, died April 18 at the Rice County District Hospital in Lyons. He was born Dec. 19, 1925, in Keota Okla., the son of Charles and Olvia Gray Porter. On Sept. 30, 1947, he married Norma Louis on Sept. 30, 1947. A resident of Bushton since 1991, formerly of Tulsa, Okla., he grew up in McCurtain, Okla. He was an oilfield worker and a barber.

Orland Lee Schulz 1926 - 2011

BUSHTON - Orland Lee Schulz, 84, died April 18 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born July 27, 1926, in rural Bushton, the son of John and Myrtle Beneke Schulz. A lifetime resident of the Bushton area, he graduated from Bushton High School. On May 5, 1949, he married Gloria Chesnut at Wichita Falls, Texas. She died on Feb. 2, 1985. He was employed by NCRA for 22 years, and was a lifetime farmer.

Toxic blue-green algae bloom affecting Veterans Lake

OPEKA– The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued Public Health Warnings for Marion Reservoir, Marion County; and Memorial Park Lake (a.k.a. Veterans Lake), Great Bend due to toxic blue-green algae populations above minimum public safety levels. Logan City Lake in Phillips County remains on the warning list, bringing the total to three so far in 2013.
