PARKER, Colo. – Fae Amerine, 94, died May 27, 2012, at Colorado Assisted Living, Parker, Colo. She was born Oct. 29, 1917, at Thornfield, Mo., the daughter of Samuel Gordon and Alice Ruby (McAllister) Doss. She married Earl Marion Amerine July 5, 1936, at Lyons. He died March 10, 2011.
PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. - Phyllys Nadine Yeager, 86, died May 27 at Golden Living Center in Plattsmouth, Neb.
ELLINWOOD - Kenneth Secrist, 97, died May 27 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born May 12, 1915 in Linn County, he was the son of James Walter and Jenni Pearl (Robbins) Secrist. On July 29, 1938 he married Leila Jene Burris in Augusta. She died on July 25, 1998. An Ellinwood resident for sixty-five years coming from El Dorado, he was a teacher with his first teaching job at Manter. He came to Ellinwood to teach in the high school, then was principal for Ellinwood Junior High. He retired from teaching and bought the H & H IGA in partnership with ...
ELLINWOOD - Imogene M. Sanko, 80, died May 29 at Country Place Senior Living in Ellinwood. Born Jan. 19, 1932 in Meade, she was the daughter of James Hayden and Hilda Cordes Hayden. On Oct. 8, 1951 she married Wilbert V. Sanko at the Cathedral in Dodge City. A resident of Ellinwood for 58 years, she was a farm wife, bus driver for USD 355 assistant to a veterinarian and a telephone operator.
ST. JOHN - John Richard Fatzer, D.D.S., died May 21 in St. John.
MILBERGER - Ruth E. Miller, 90 of Hays and formerly of Milberger, died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Via Christi Nursing Home in Hays.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Royals turn to a 23-year-old rookie to save their season, but not just any 23-year-old rookie: the hardest-throwing starting pitcher in the major leagues.
CLAFLIN- Larry Thomas Haxton, 70, died Oct. 26 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. Born Sept. 30, 1944 in Great Bend, he was the son of Wallace and Louise (Werhahn) Haxton.
The Region VI Championships lived up to its billing. Several ranked teams battled it out for the region title while Barton standout Lydia Mato did her thing in winning the meet.
It was a region stacked with ranked teams – three in the Top 10 and five in the Top 20. After placing near the bottom last season the improvement was vast this season. Especially consider ing that Barton standout Samson Laari nearly won the meet, taking second by the narrowest of margins.

The U.S. average price of gasoline of $3.03 per gallon continues its slide to levels last seen in December 2010, and Monday, more than one-half of the nation's gas stations offer regular gasoline at prices below $3 per gallon. Meanwhile in Kansas, the average retail gasoline prices have risen 5.0 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.96 Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 1,329 gas outlets in Kansas.
