Boxberger thrives at World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Austria

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Three University of Notre Dame rowing team student-athletes were members of top-10 finishing crews in late July at the 2013 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria, Erin Boxberger (United States, W8+), Ailish Sheehan (Ireland, W4-) and Molly Bruggeman (USA, W4x) each took part in the five-day event.

​Great Bend Public Library holding supply drive

The Great Bend Public Library is holding a craft supply drive. Items requested range from crayons and glue to Mod Podge (glue, sealer and finish) and scissors. Jennifer King, the Young Adult librarian, said the library offers a variety of craft programs for all ages. "Crafts are an indispensable method of promoting creativity," King said.

Crime Stoppers offers reward after shot taken at officer

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information about the person who shot at a Kansas Highway Patrol officer in his patrol car last month. At 12:56 a.m. on July 28, the trooper was driving east in the 1400 block of 10th St. in Great Bend when he heard a gunshot and the rear window glass shattered.

Shafer Gallery calling for 'Choreography of Cranes' entries

The Shafer Art Gallery at Barton Community College is calling for entries for its national juried art exhibit "Choreography of Cranes." The deadline to submit work is Sept. 1. The exhibit is a collaborative effort between the Shafer Gallery and the Kansas Wetlands Education Center to raise awareness of the precarious plight of the endangered whooping cranes and the daunting task of conserving their habitat.
