ELLINWOOD - Esther I. Burhenn, 97, died Aug. 26 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Feb. 21, 1914 in Barton County, she was the daughter of Paul and Lillian (Foelgner) Kasselman. In 1932, she graduated from Ellinwood High School. On Jan. 27, 1939 she married Ralph Burhenn in Stafford. He died on June 23, 1993. She was lifetime resident of Barton County. Before her retirement, she was a school teacher in Ellinwood. She moved to Great Bend in 1950 and was a cook at Harrison Middle School and then for the central kitchen facility for USD 428.
WILSON - Lucille Weber, 91, died Aug. 26, at the Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Sept. 19, 1919 in Dubuque, she was the daughter of William and Katie Weber Polzin. On Nov. 8, 1944, she married Marland Weber in Beaver. He died Aug. 2, 1997. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a partner with her brother John Polzin and operated the J&L Department Store for 10 years. The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will discuss the creation of a Fire Science certificate program during its September study session, set for 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Other items on the agenda include a change in the Home Health Aide course required for a Licensed Practical Nurse certificate, and proposed changes to the board policy manual. WICHITA - Venita E. Moore, 89, died Aug. 26 at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita. Born Sept. 11, 1921 in Rush County, she was the daughter of E.M. and Mollie Ernst Moore. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1939, and attended Fort Hays Kansas State College. A resident of Wichita for 36 1/2 years, coming from Dallas, Texas, she was employed for several years by Federal Land Bank, working in their LaCrosse, Oberlin and Larned offices. She then worked for an oil company in Great Bend, transferring to their San Antonio, Texas office.

CONCORDIA - Sister Jeanette Wasinger, 76, died Oct. 22, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia. She was a Sister of St. Joseph for 56 years. Born in Hays on June 3, 1938, she was the daughter of Nick and Catherine (Stecklein) Wasinger, the younger of two children, and was baptized Jeanette Mae. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, on Sept. 8, 1957. On March 18, 1958, Jeanette received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Joseph Andre. Rosewood Services celebrated a decade of showcasing the abilities of horse riders with disabilities during the 10th-annual Rosewood Rodeo on Oct. 11. The milestone event took place at Great Bend Expo III Arena and it was an overall success, said Rosewood Services executive director Tammy Hammond.
