The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 9 at the Club at Stone Ridge. President Rose Kelly called the meeting to order. A total of 49 members were present. Rose led the flag salute and Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. The minutes of the Sept. 2 meeting were approved as printed and the treasurer's report was approved as read.
2003 GBHS graduate Nathan Koch recently completed all requirements to earn a DMA degree in musical performance from the University of Texas in Austin.
Bernita Schloemer Clair will celebrate her 80th birthday on Dec. 27 with a card shower. Bernita was born in 1931 in Rush County. In 1949, she graduated from LaCrosse High School. She was married to Millard "Mitty" Schloemer from 1954 until his passing in 1982. She married Jack Clair in 1990 in Ellinwood, where the couple still resides.
The Parnassus Club met on Dec. 13. Parnassus Auditions have been set for March 3rd, 2012. The room is approved for the auditions. Glenna and committee are searching for judges at this time.

Grandparents of the bride are Darrell and Colleen Rexwinkle and Evelyn Penka, all of Great Bend, and the late Edward Penka. U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) today announced that the ranking period cut-off date for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) is January 13, 2012. Producers interested in CSP should submit applications to their local NRCS office by the deadline so that their applications can be considered during the first ranking period of 2012.
Great Bend Wrestlers competed at the Gun Smoke Nationals in Dodge City on Feb 14, and had 17 placers.

OREM, Utah - Delpha Irene Freeman Douglas died Feb. 20th. Born July 11, 1905, at Bogard, Carrollton County, Mo., she was the daughter of John Franklin Freeman and Alice Virginia Smith Freeman. On Aug. 2, 1924, she married Charlie Nelson Douglas in Anthony. He died on Sept. 17, 1981.
HOISINGTON - Eugene H. Bitter, 84, died Feb. 22, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. Born March 30, 1930, on the family farm near Susank, he was the son of Julius and Emilie (Schmidt) Bitter. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, Eugene was a farmer, stockman and fisherman.
ALBERT - LoRay D. George, 83, died Feb. 21, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in La Crosse. Born Sept. 1, 1931, in rural Albert he was the son of Herman "H. D." and Hilda "A. C." (Tammen) George. On Aug. 21, 1959, he married Anna Mae Wheeler at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert. She preceded him in death Feb. 3, 2002. A lifelong resident of Rush County he was a farmer.
LARNED - Larry L. Fleske, 55, passed away Feb. 20, at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Oct. 9, 1959, in Great Bend, he was the son of Walter W. and Rena J. Eveleigh Fleske. On Jan. 14, 1989, he married Sharon L. Horne in Great Bend. She survives. A lifetime area resident of Larned he was farmer/stockman.
