Arlene K. “Hett” Sittner 1941 - 2011

HUDSON - Arlene K. "Hett" Sittner, 70, died Sunday at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. Born Feb. 27, 1941 at Marion she was the daughter of Homer and Wilma Bowers Hett. She was a graduate of Westmar College and received her master's degree from KSU. She was a home economics teacher and was the church secretary for Peace Church and Trinity Community Church, both of Hudson. She was an active member of the Peace Church. On July 21, 1972 she married Marvin Sittner at Marion.

Paul D. Langen 1938-2011

Paul D. Langen, 73, of Great Bend, died Aug. 28 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born March 2, 1938 in Easton, Penn., the son of William J. and Nan Conard Langen who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Philadelphia, Penn. He was a veteran of Berlin Airlift 7th Army, 56th Medical Battalion.

Esther I. Burhenn 1914 - 2011

ELLINWOOD - Esther I. Burhenn, 97, died Aug. 26 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Feb. 21, 1914 in Barton County, she was the daughter of Paul and Lillian (Foelgner) Kasselman. In 1932, she graduated from Ellinwood High School. On Jan. 27, 1939 she married Ralph Burhenn in Stafford. He died on June 23, 1993. She was lifetime resident of Barton County. Before her retirement, she was a school teacher in Ellinwood. She moved to Great Bend in 1950 and was a cook at Harrison Middle School and then for the central kitchen facility for USD 428.

Lucille Weber 1919 - 2011

WILSON - Lucille Weber, 91, died Aug. 26, at the Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Sept. 19, 1919 in Dubuque, she was the daughter of William and Katie Weber Polzin. On Nov. 8, 1944, she married Marland Weber in Beaver. He died Aug. 2, 1997. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a partner with her brother John Polzin and operated the J&L Department Store for 10 years. BCC trustees consider Fire Science certificate; revisit policy manual

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will discuss the creation of a Fire Science certificate program during its September study session, set for 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. Other items on the agenda include a change in the Home Health Aide course required for a Licensed Practical Nurse certificate, and proposed changes to the board policy manual. Dean of Administration Mark Dean will present the financial statement, and will talk about "Higher One."

LaVerna C. Moore, 80, died Feb. 26, 2015, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 11, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of G.F. and Christina (Cook) Ohnmacht. Originally from Olmitz, she married Walter B. Moore Jr. on Sept. 8, 1956, at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, Chicago, Ill. He died Oct. 17, 2002. A Great Bend resident since 1991, returning from Chicago, she was a homemaker.

Vicky Boger Trivett 1938 - 2015

SARASOTA, Fla. - Vicky Boger Trivett, 76, died on Feb. 21, 2015. Born May 17, 1938, in Ulm, Germany, she was the daughter of Fredrich and Rosa Bauder. On April 27, 1960, she married Richard Dean Boger in Columbus, Ga. The couple resided in Great Bend from 1960 to 1974, before moving to Ellinwood from 1974-2002. They owned Boger Pharmacy in Ellinwood and Boger Gift Gallery in Great Bend. On April 19, 2002, Richard passed away. On Oct. 3, 2003, Vicky married Preston Trivett. The couple resided in Sarasota, Fla.
